Water Loss d.o.o. Sarajevo joins NRW Reduction Project in Tanga, Tanzania

Water Loss d.o.o. Sarajevo is part of an international consulting team led by GFA and Tetra Tech , supporting the Tanga City Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project in Tanzania.

The project includes the preparation of a feasibility study for sanitation improvement and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction, with the aim of developing practical and sustainable solutions to improve water services in Tanga.

As part of the NRW component, Water Loss d.o.o. Sarajevo is contributing its expertise in IWA water balance, water-loss assessment, District Metered Areas (DMAs), pressure management, active leakage control, and metering improvement. A particular focus is placed on identifying priority NRW reduction measures and developing Performance-Based Contracting (PBC) models with clearly defined performance indicators and monitoring systems.

The Key NRW Expert on the project is Đevad Koldžo, bringing extensive international experience in water loss management, NRW reduction strategies, water balance, DMA development and performance-based approaches.

The objective is to transform existing strategies and analyses into concrete, implementable and finance-ready investment packages, with clearly defined intervention areas, KPIs, DMA implementation phases, monitoring arrangements, risk allocation and verification mechanisms.

The project approaches NRW not only as a technical challenge. Sustainable water-loss reduction also requires improvements in operational procedures, institutional capacity, monitoring, staff training and contractual mechanisms.

This integrated approach is at the core of Water Loss d.o.o. Sarajevo’s work — from reliable water balances and data analysis, through field diagnostics and DMA assessments, to practical measures for reducing water losses and improving the long-term performance of water utilities.

For Water Loss d.o.o. Sarajevo, this is another opportunity to bring its international experience in water-loss management to Tanzania and contribute to more efficient, financially sustainable and reliable water supply services.
